Improve Your Smile

Improve the appearance and chewing function of an existing tooth

Crowns can be used to attach a bridge or protect a weak tooth from breaking. Crowns are created from a wide range of materials, which impacts the wearability and longevity of the restoration. There are a variety of options when choosing a crown:

Porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns & bridges

These strong crowns and bridges are made by fusing porcelain to an underlying metal structure, often a nickel-based alloy. (Some patients may experience an allergic reaction due to the base metal.)

Metal-free crowns

Metal-free crowns, such as Empress and Lava Zirconia, provide translucency to mimic natural teeth, offer great strength and stability, and provide a natural look. Often used with dental implants as they do not create dark rings at the gum line (as is the case with metal crowns). Certain non-metal crowns can be used for both back and front teeth. Others are used for replacing front teeth only.

Porcelain-fused-to-gold crowns & bridges

These crowns, such as Captek, are made by fusing porcelain to an underlying gold structure, which results in a strong, durable crown with a very natural appearance. Gold crowns have also been shown to greatly reduce the presence of oral bacteria that cause gum disease.

Gold crowns & bridges

Plaque-resistant gold crowns offer exceptional function and durability. Polished to a mirror-like finish, gold crowns are often a good choice when durability is the first concern.
